Orthodox Church Aid from Finland
Ortaid is a voluntary organization associated with the Finnish Orthodox Church and devoted to the relief of material deprivation in areas with an Orthodox population.
Ortaid was founded in Helsinki in April 2000 as a development aid organization for the Orthodox Church. Legally, it is a registered association run by a board of directors, under the chairmanship of Archbishop Leo of Karelia and All Finland.
Ortaid acts in collaboration with the Orthodox Archdiocese of Finland, FinnChurchAid (the overseas aid organization of the Finnish Lutheran Church), Action by Churches Together and the local Orthodox churches of the countries that it serves. Ortaid is a non-profit organization.
Projects and humanitarian aid
Ortaid works in the fields of development cooperation and humanitarian aid. Foundations for the work are global responsibility of Christians and sustainable development. Participation of beneficiaries is in the core of Ortaid's work. Developmental aid is implemented with the local people and humanitarian aid donated at first hand.
In Finland Ortaid works in Orthodox parishes and with its cooperation networks. Ortaid specializes in HIV/AIDS and Anti-Human Trafficking.
Ortaid has ongoing projects in three different areas, in Ethiopia, Republic of Karelia in the Federation of Russia, and Moldova. Read more about Ortaid's development cooperation projects.
Humanitarian aid to neighboring areas consists Karelia in the Federation of Russia and the Baltic Countries.
